Are You a Dedicated Realtor?
When speaking about passion, wine guy, writer, and entrepreneur, Gary Vaynerchuk says, “although I might have the skills to make a buck, or two or four million, it is still fundamentally better to go after your passions because you have the same skill sets… [but] …when you focus on the passion you’ll be able to do the one thing that will differentiate yourself from your competition, and that is a hustle.” That’s the thing about passion when you do something that you are passionate about (even if it is your regular job), you don’t think of it as a chore. Time goes by quickly, and you may continue until late in the evening because it is something you enjoy—you hustle (to use Vaynerchuk’s words).
There have been several occasions where I have woken at 5:00 a.m. PST (without the aid of an alarm clock) in order to get an early start and possibly fend off a pending foreclosure auction scheduled for later that same morning. Since most of the lenders begin at 8:00 a.m. EST, I know that I will have an extra three hours to work my magic and, hopefully, compel a bank executive to assist my clients in avoiding foreclosure.
While I am not always successful, I can always hold my head high and know that I did absolutely everything possible under the sun in order to assist my clients. Dedication and passion are not about floating your boat, it’s about living your life in a way that makes you feel good about being you.
11 Reasons You Might be a Dedicated Realtor®…
- Your car’s trunk doubles as an office space.
- Your cell phone is permanently connected to your ear.
- You can answer the phone, reply to an email, send fax, eat lunch, review a title report, send a text message, and make an appointment—all at the same time.
- The only time that you are social is in the middle of the night—online with the other real estate agents.
- Your ten year old knows about escrows, defaults, and foreclosures.
- Starbucks knows your coffee order.
- Your Realtor® radar goes off when anyone nearby starts talking about property values.
- You wish you were as important as those lead sellers (telemarketers) lead you to believe.
- Your job description may also include psychiatrist, divorce counselor, marriage counselor, babysitter, home stager, mind-reader, job consultant, bookkeeper, mentor, and financial analyst
- No matter how hard you work, at least one client thinks you are overpaid.
- You attend any “Broker Open” that offers food or the opportunity to win a gift card.
All kidding aside, it takes a lot of dedication and passion to sell real estate. You have to be many things to many people, and you often need to wear many hats. Often a real estate agent’s best efforts go unrecognized. But, when you are dedicated and always try your best, your hard work generates leads and lifelong referrals.
